My time with Mafia 3 and XCom 2 were very short-lived. Mafia 3 failed to hold my attention past the fifth “kill-this-guy, then-kill-that-guy-so-you-can-kill-this-guy” formula. And XCom 2 on PS4 is riddled with atrocious load times so they’ve been tossed on the trade-in heap.
So now I’ve got enough GameStop credit to pick up a new game. Should I get Battlefield 1? Or load up on smaller games I wanted to buy and didn’t at the time. I was thinking Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, because I want some turn-based love in the absence of XCom. In that same vein, I have yet to even touch Overwatch. I don’t know if I’ll be able to jump in since it’s been out for months and players are probably leagues better than I will be to start. But I feel like I’m missing out on a cultural gaming phenomenon by not playing.
Then there’s the wildcard of picking up Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration. I played a bit of it on Xbox One a couple months back and really enjoyed it — but since I was renting it, I had to return it. Or I could make the smart choice and pay off Final Fantasy XV so when that drops at the end of November I can waltz in, pick it up and then lose hours of my life to it.
I’ll definitely be diving back into Red Dead Redemption after yesterday’s trailer got me excited for the sequel (prequel?). In fact I trotted around the wild west for a couple hours last night to slog through the first few opening missions. I’ll be doing updated impressions of RDR at a later date, too.
I’m determined to finish all 9 levels of Thumper, having “S” ranked the first two stages and somehow navigating my way through level 5 last night. That game will be the first full review I do on The Heady Gamer and I can’t wait to give it the care and attention it deserves.
What will you be playing this weekend — if you want to add me on PSN or Xbox Live my PSN ID is “Wiscactor” (I know, Sony, let people change their fucking names!) and my XBL ID is “The Smick.” Happy gaming this weekend!
